Highlands Fire District provides fire suppression, emergency medical service (EMS), and fire prevention programs. The focus of Operations is to protect and preserve life and property. Operations depends heavily upon the front line performance of the firefighter crews on the engines first responding to the scene of an emergency. Our personnel are highly qualified individuals who continually train in the techniques, dangers, and ever changing technologies within the scope of the services they provide. The diverse nature of emergency assignments today have resulted in the development of specialized programs to accommodate the needs of the communities we serve.

The majority of our emergency responses are medical in nature, and residents of our District live several miles from Flagstaff Medical Center. Pre-hospital medical care is crucial to saving lives. As a function of the EMS Program, the Board has set forth the goal to provide Advanced Life Support personnel (Paramedics and/or IEMT-Q Certified Healthcare Providers) on every shift.
