Resident Student Firefighter Program
Highlands Fire District has a Resident Student Firefighter Program with the intention to enhance firefighter staffing and improve responses to emergency incidents, and to prepare individuals for a career in fire protection and emergency services. In exchange for lodging and educational cost reimbursement while attending a Fire Science Program at Coconino Community College (CCC), Resident Student Firefighters are trained as firefighters and are given the opportunity to staff fire apparatus, respond to emergency incidents, and maintain the fire station.
